Mentor Program

A unique feature of the Parliament Hill Toastmasters Club is our Mentor Program, which is designed to make the new member feel comfortable and surrounded by friends. It is designed to help the new member plan the path toward satisfying his or her personal objectives.


New members may have concerns about being a new Toastmaster and meeting new challenges. Mentors can address these concerns. New members receive individual attention from more experienced members who can share their knowledge and fill the role of coach.


The mentor works closely not only with the new member, but also with the Vice President of Education to:

  • assess the needs of the new member,
  • establish the pace at which the new member wishes to proceed, and

  • fully explain the Toastmasters education program.

The mentor is available to assist the new member:

  • whenever the new member is given an assignment to ensure that the new member understands the assignment,
  • to provide guidance preparing speeches and leadership projects, and

  • to serve as an audience when the new member needs to practice.

Mentoring benefits everyone:

  • it is good for new members because it guides them on the road to becoming successful communicators and leaders by completing the Competent Communicator and Competent Leadership program,
  • it is good for the mentor because it is rewarding, keeps senior members involved and they often learn more from the different perspectives proffered by the new member, and
  • it benefits the Club because it helps to retain members.
